ClockCheck Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 5, 2026

ClockCheck is an iPhone app that measures how accurately a mechanical watch keeps time by listening to it tick. It is operated by Tidemark Advisory LLC (“we”, “us”). Questions about this policy: hello@clockcheck.app.

The short version

  • We do not collect, sell or share your personal information.
  • There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
  • The microphone is used only while a check is running. The audio is analysed on your iPhone. It is never saved and never leaves your phone.
  • If you use Premium’s Watch Box, your watches, photos and saved checks are stored only on your iPhone. We never receive them.

Microphone

ClockCheck asks for microphone access so it can hear your watch tick. The microphone is on only while a check is running, and stops when the check ends or you leave the app. The sound is turned into measurements on your iPhone and then discarded. No audio is recorded to a file or sent anywhere.

Your results

A free check is not saved. The latest result is kept in memory so it can be shown on screen, and it is gone when the app closes. If you tap Share Result, ClockCheck makes an image of the result and hands it to the iPhone share sheet. Where it goes after that (Messages, Photos and so on) is up to you.

Premium: the Watch Box

Premium lets you keep a Watch Box. This is what it holds, and only if you add it:

  • Watches: brand, model, reference, movement, type, beat rate, dates (bought, serviced), notes, and whether it is in your collection or on your wish list.
  • Photos: a photo of a watch, if you take one with the camera or choose one from your photo library. ClockCheck keeps its own copy inside the app. The camera is used only when you choose to take a photo.
  • Saved checks: when you choose to save a check to a watch, ClockCheck keeps the numbers (rate, beat error, beat rate, confidence, time and date, watch position) and a small graph of the check. Audio is never saved. A check is saved only when you choose to save it.

All of this is stored only on your iPhone, in a small database and a photo folder inside the app. It is never uploaded to us or anyone else. Because it is part of the app’s data, it is included in your iPhone’s normal backup (iCloud Backup or a computer backup, if you use them). Those backups are held by Apple or on your computer under your own settings, not by us.

Purchases

Premium is an auto-renewing subscription. Payment is handled entirely by Apple through your Apple ID. We never see your name, payment details or Apple ID. The app only learns whether this Apple ID has an active Premium subscription, and it remembers that answer on your iPhone (a small empty marker file) so Premium works offline. We have no server and no list of customers. Apple may give us sales and subscription totals that do not identify you, under Apple’s own policies.

What else is stored on your iPhone

  • A note that you have seen the introduction, so it isn’t shown every time. It contains nothing about you or your checks.
  • The Premium marker described above.

Ratings

ClockCheck may ask whether you would like to rate it. Ratings are handled by Apple’s App Store, and ClockCheck does not see who rated or what they chose.

How to delete your data

  • One watch: open the watch and delete it. This also deletes its saved checks and its photo from the app.
  • Everything: delete the ClockCheck app. This removes the Watch Box, photos and the markers above from your iPhone.
  • Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription. Cancel in Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
  • If you use iCloud Backup, older backups may still hold a copy until you delete them (Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Storage › Backups). Photos you took or chose from your own photo library are not touched when you delete a watch or the app.

Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

Apple

ClockCheck is distributed through Apple’s App Store. Apple may collect information under its own privacy policy. If you test ClockCheck through TestFlight, Apple shares with us what TestFlight provides, such as your name and email as a tester, any feedback you send, and crash reports.

Test versions only

Test versions of ClockCheck (for example through TestFlight) include optional developer tools for people helping improve the app. They are off unless you turn them on and agree to the terms shown in the app. While on, ClockCheck saves the audio of each check on your iPhone, and you may attach a photo. These stay on your iPhone unless you choose to share them with the developer, who uses them only to improve ClockCheck and will delete them on request to hello@clockcheck.app. Turning the tools off deletes them. These tools are not in the App Store version.

Children

ClockCheck does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Subscriptions are bought through an Apple ID, which Apple manages.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
